Hollywood Program, Spring 2016

Penn State Hollywood Program student Carl LaGuerre holds the Oscar for "Spotlight," winner of Best Picture. LaGuerre is an intern at Open Road Films. Penn State alumnus Tom Ortenberg of Open Road was an executive producer on the award-winning and critically acclaimed movie.

 

The inaugural semester of the Penn State Hollywood Program has provided many opportunities for students to network and learn in Hollywood.

Penn State alumnus Tom Ortenberg of Open Road was an executive producer on the award-winning and critically acclaimed movie. Legendary Hollywood producer/director Donald Bellisario (center) and his wife Vivienne (back row, right) host Penn Sate Hollywood Program students at their home in April 2016. Penn State Hollywood Program students meet with actor/comedian Nick Swardson. David Shore (center), creator and show runner of the long-running Fox series "House," provided insight about navigating the creative processes to make a show successful. "House" aired for eight seasons, earning more than 50 awards -- including Golden Globes and Emmys. Penn State Hollywood Program student Dorisa Rodney at the Kid's Choice Awards. Writer/director Pete Farrelly ("Dumb and Dumber," There's Something About Mary," "Kingpin") spoke in The Art of Comedy class taught by Deepak Sethi. Hollywood Program student Lindsey Hutterer, an intern at CBS in publicity, attended the Grammy Awards. Hollywood Program student Ben Bobick interviewed Grammy Award-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar. Bobick is completing an internship with ABC-7. Blitt and Knoxville took time for a post-presentation photo, too. Actor Johnny Knoxville (center), writer/producer Ricky Blitt (left) and writer/comedian Deepak Sethi, who teaches The Art of Comedy in the Hollywood Program, met with program students to discuss the industry. Hollywood Program students were able to meet other alumni and friends upon their arrival in Los Angeles. The iconic Hollywood sign is visible from the apartment complex where Hollywood Program students live during the semester.
