Biography

Enica Castañeda is a third-year Ph.D. student in mass communications focusing on strategic communications and health communications. She is a single-mother who hails from Los Angles. She holds a master’s of science in evidence-based social interventions from the University of Oxford and a bachelor of arts in Chicana and Chicano studies from UCLA.

While at Penn State she has served as a Delegate to the Graduate and Professional Student Association for the College of Communications and as a Faculty Senator, representing the Graduate School within the University Faculty Senate. Her passions lie in helping marginalized peoples achieve the most that they can in life. As a result, she is interested in how the media can be used to get social interventions out to the people and communities that need them most. Castañeda has a gift for agitating and educating and is unabashedly opinionated -- understanding that her voice of dissent is needed and valuable in a world filled with people that just want to get along.
