Jonathan McVerry is a communications strategist for the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication, a research center in Penn State’s College of Communications. He also teaches COMM 260W: News Writing and Reporting as an adjunct lecturer.
After graduating from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, McVerry began his career at the Williamsport Sun-Gazette as a political reporter. He then earned a master’s degree in communication studies at Shippensburg University. He hosted two radio shows, “The Global Café” and “Rockin’ the Ship,” while completing his master’s thesis titled “The Effect of Celebrity on the Framing of Darfur in Elite U.S. Newspapers.”
McVerry joined the Penn State staff as a writer/editor for the University’s Auxiliary & Business Services organization. After that, he worked as the communications manager for Penn State’s Social Science Research Institute.
A native of Stroudsburg, Pa., in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, McVerry often works as a freelance writer and performs in a local acoustic rock band called Hops & Vines. He is also a volunteer host on WPSU’s “Folk Show” radio program.
