Richie Sherman teaches intermediate and advanced film production courses. He has shot more than 50 short films and six independent feature-length films, including "The Guatemalan Handshake" (2006) and the upcoming "SquidMan" (2012).

He is co-director of the feature documentary "No. 4 Street of Our Lady" (2009), which won the Grand Prize for Best Documentary at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, a Silver Telly Award and the CINE Golden Eagle Award.

His short films have been juried into competitive film festivals, including the Kurz International Film Festival in Hamburg, Germany, the Filmstock Film Festival in Luton, England, and the Ann Arbor Film Festival in Michigan. He is currently finishing a feature documentary that takes place in Tel Aviv's oldest beauty academy.

His awards at Penn State include an individual faculty grant from the Institute for the Arts and Humanities (2010), the Deans' Excellence Award for Research and Creative Activity (2007) and the Excellence in Teaching Award (2007) from the Alumni Society Board of the College of Communications. He was co-recipient of support from the President's Excellence Fund (2009). He is a past recipient of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Artists Fellowship and the Ohio Arts Council Individual Artists Fellowship.
