Sports Journalism - Certificate Program
To complete the program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Be accepted into the emphasis via application to the Center for Sports Journalism. There is an informational session each fall. Applications are available online, and they are accepted once a year by the stated deadline.
- Complete the mandatory major credit hours required for a bachelor's degree in communications. Most applicants are journalism or public relations majors.
- Earn a minimum of six credits from COMM 476, 477 and/or 478 and complete an on-campus sports media activity (ComRadio, Daily Collegian, WKPS-FM "The Lion," Intercollegiate Athletics).
- Complete an on- or off-campus internship in sports media.
Applications for the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism are accepted each fall semester.
Juniors and seniors are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible. All majors are welcome to apply.
Students who have not completed the prerequisite courses of COMM 160 or COMM 260W are welcome to apply and may be accepted into the program on a contingency basis. Students will not be permitted to take the sports journalism courses until the successful completion of COMM 160 and 260W.
